7 Ways We Lightened Our Carbon Footprint

SIPTU is committed to minimising the environmental impact of our conference and of finding ways to be more environmentally responsible. Here are 7 ways we lightened our ecological footprint:

Conference Bags

Our delegate and guest bags are made from 100% organic fair trade cotton and come with SA8000 certification. SA8000 is based on international human rights principles in eight key areas: freedom of association and collective bargaining, child labour, forced labour, health and safety, discrimination, disciplinary practices, working hours and remuneration. By choosing Neutral® fair trade cotton, we can also be assured that the farmers who produced the cotton in our bags have received a fair price for their crops. Our bags are reusable, durable and long-lasting and we hope that delegates will use and enjoy them for many years to come.

Water Bottles

Delegates and guests receive their own BPA-free reusable water bottle. Having their own water bottle to fill up at the conference centre and in their hotel as and when needed cuts down on the use of single use plastic by those attending conference. The bottles are reusable, durable and long-lasting and we hope that delegates will use them when they are out and about after conference.

Recycled Materials

Recycled re-usable signage, roll-ups, flags and promotional materials.  We have designed the majority of signage for the conference venue to be re-usable at future conferences, meetings and events.

Pens

At conference we will use eco-friendly pens with a barrel made of recycled paper.

Lanyards

The lanyards that we will wear at conference and that will hold our conference credential are made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET). PET is not single-use. It is 100% recyclable and is made to be remade.
